BOSS Caving

Head to nearby Monte di Malo with BOSS and descend into the heart of the Earth! Please plan to arrive by 15 minutes beforehand so we can be sure to depart on time.

To preparefor this caving trip, here are some recommendations and details:

• The cave will be around 50 degrees F (10C). Wear warm layers that you are willing to get dirty! Long pants and close-toed shoes are mandatory.
• Thick cotton is not recommended. It gets very heavy when wet/dirty and loses its warming properties.
• Don’t wear your favorite shoes; hiking boots or something that can get muddy and still give you traction will work. Rubber boots are ideal but only if you have a sturdy hiking pair.
• Coveralls or overalls work great as a top layer
• Bring knee pads if you have them, it will make the crawling sections more comfortable.
• Gloves are recommended.
• A backpack is NOT recommended, as they are cumbersome in tight spaces.
• We will be underground for approximately 4 hours, so water and handy snacks are a good idea!
• Cameras are okay to bring, but they should be waterproof.
• BRING A COMPLETE CHANGE OF CLOTHES, including underwear. You will be completely muddy and wet.
• Helmets and headlamps will be provided.
• This cave is known to be very wet! Be prepared to have water potentially reach your waist in some areas!
• You will be able to leave valuables or things you don’t want to get wet in the van, which will be locked up.

• Ederle Outdoor Recreation at 9:30 a.m.

Travel Time: 45 minutes each way

After caving, we’ll change and enjoy some Italian snacks outside the cave.
